Nursing staff

 **Present sanctioned nursing staff posts situation***

The PGIMS has about a total 1150 sanctioned posts of nurses and 200 are still lying vacant while 100 are usually on leave due to different reasons.
“A total of about 150 ICU beds have been set up in the ICUs of departments of Cardiac, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Paediatric Surgery, Day care centers, PICU, new Operation Theater and modular ICU for which 600 more nursing staffers are required as per the Nursing Council of India norms,” .
The details are as foloows:
As per Indian Nursing Council (INC) norms, the nurse-patient ratio should be 1:3 for general wards in medical colleges and 1:5 for district hospitals, one in each clinic room of the OPD and 1:1 in ICU, ICCU and other critical care areas.

ICU situation and nurses:
.There are following ICUs for which nursing staff needs to be sanctioned.
A.Departmental ICU's
1. Cardiac ICU
Ward 25....12 beds
SSC....8 beds Total..20 beds
2. Neurosurgery ICU..8 beds
3. Neurology ICU..8 beds
4. Day care ICU..10 beds
5.Paediatric Surgery ICU..10 beds
Total beds: 56
Nursing Staff required :56x 4=224
Nursing Sisters:
As per norms 1 N/S in each shift + leave reserved for each unit , so
5x4=20 Nursing sisters
Required Assistant Nursing Sisters as per norms ...1 for 2 units+leave reserved=4
Total nursing staff required for 56 ICU beds comes out to be 224+20+4=248
B.Old OT complex 3rd floor
1. PICU for Covid patients..36 beds
2. Non Covid PICU..8 beds
Total beds 44
Nursing staff required..44x4=176
Nursing Sisters=8
Assistant nursing sisters..2
Total Nursing Staff required..176+8+2=186
C. New OT care ICU complex..215
A+B+C=248+186+215=649
There is Urgent need of sanction of at least 649 more posts of nursing staff to meet present situation and future pandemic situations .
250 vacant posts need to be filled urgently.
